COMING sOON: La Tribu Rural in South Austin!

LATRIBU_logo_clear.png

¡Hola! We are La Tribu Rural, the South Austin campus of La Tribu Preschool, the first and only Spanish Immersion Montessori School in Austin. South Austin provides us with the perfect opportunity to make our high-quality, rich, diverse and unique program available to more families in our wonderful city.

La Tribu began as a passion project. In 2015, we, as parents, faced a dilemma: how do we choose between Montessori education and Spanish immersion for our children? We wanted to have both of the best worlds and through our research, we discovered that the Montessori method was actually highly compatible with a language program and provided an incredible context in which to implement an immersion system.

After four years of creating our own curriculum, researching different experiences and learning from the best, we developed a very unique pedagogy of our own. Our system combines Montessori general philosophy towards childhood development with several other key components: academics and socio-emotional management; Walford concepts that establish daily rhythms in our classrooms; a mindfulness program; and a strong Spanish immersion program that consists of our original cultural curriculum. While we are incredibly proud of what we have created, we know that there is always room for more and we are eager to pursue new horizons!

In 2019 we are opening the doors to the next phase of our passion project. This new school will maintain everything we established in the formation of La Tribu Preschool and incorporate the values of nature exploration and sustainability. We are happy to announce that we are the new owners of a 1.5 acre campus on 9000 Manchaca Road, where we will develop a rural-inspired school: La Tribu Rural.

We are committed to continue all our priorities - such as developing community, empathy, independence, high academic standards and strong socio-emotional connections - within our Tribe of students and their parents. Come along with us on the next chapter of our journey!

See what parents are saying about our school:

“I was so excited to find a school that combined Spanish immersion with Montessori in La Tribu. My son has learned so much independence from school. He is fully bilingual now, regularly speaking Spanish whenever his abuelos visit and easily code switching when talking to me and his dad. - Peggy L

“I have toured so many pre-schools and this one was, far and away, the best choice for our family.  The Director is incredible and is never satisfied, always improving the curriculum and experience for students and their families. We don't speak Spanish at home but, thanks to the school, we are learning and my daughter, who has been there for two years, is learning at light speed.  We also feel very welcomed by the other families that are native speakers. The guides are warm and knowledgeable, friendly and loving. ” - Marrilee A

“I had three kids and sent them to La Tribu's summer camp because I wanted them to learn Spanish. Well, not only they got a lot of vocabulary during their time there, but also developed a great appreciation for the language through songs, games and interaction with the teachers. But what impressed me the most were the teachers. They are very fun and dynamic. Absolutely engaged and caring about the kids. I haven't seen this level of love and attention in any other school, so I think I found a treasure here. My kids loved each at every day they spent at La Tribu, and I am really satisfied that every dollar we "invested" on this was totally worth it” - Hugo D

“La Tribu is a great place for a child to learn and be a part of something special.  In our experience, the "Tribu" is real. The staff truly care about our daughter's success and well being.  Since starting at La Tribu, we've seen our very dependent daughter transform into an independent problem solver who can work and play alone for periods at a time.  Another great thing she's picked up is the ability (and desire) to socialize with other children.” - Robert W

“My daughter has been enrolled since they opened, and she has really blossomed there. She was very shy when she started, and is so much more outgoing in public now. Her vocabulary has also grown immensely these past few months! We speak Spanish at home and were thrilled to find a Montessori-inspired Spanish immersion preschool in this part of town.  They have also provided additional activities like yoga and soccer, which my daughter has loved”. - Alejandra Z

CAROLINA PEREDO

SCHOOL DIRECTOR

Back when I was 12 and I asked my mom to please stop sending me to English lessons, I didn’t imagine I would end up moving to the far west, I mean Texas, and forming a bicultural family. Growing up in a town in southern Argentina, surrounded by mountains where to ski and lakes where to camp, the last thing on my mind was to learn a foreign language.

It wasn’t until I was studying Journalism and Communication that I understood that education -alternative, revolutionary, liberating- has no boundaries. I'm thrilled to have completed a Montessori certificate training for pre-primary (2-6 years old).

I learned that living far away from home makes you value your own culture and identity, that to remember who we are and where we come from helps us know who we want to be and respect others.

I think it is fundamental that everyone, starting in early childhood, could experience the discovery of other cultures. With that in mind I intend to grow a “tribe” with other Austin families with similar mindsets -when it comes to their kids' education.

I have a fatal attraction to artists, but I don’t belong in that breed. My thing is to plan, problem solve, answer questions, make spreadsheets and create never-ending to do lists. I also love being outdoors and traveling.

La Tribu is the place for your child to grow learning about diversity.

PROGRAMS

SPANISH IMMERSION - MONTESSORI - NATURE - COMMUNITY - DIVERSITY

The purpose of La Tribu is to provide child care in an environment that encourages all children to develop to their fullest potential. We provide high quality  early education based on a Montessori inspired curriculum, a Spanish immersion program based on cultural exploration and a focus on interacting with nature and taking care of our environment.  We are open between the hours of 7:00 am and 6:00 pm Monday through Friday, year-round (except noted holidays and vacations). Our facility is licensed to serve children ages from 18 months into school age.

BUILDING COMMUNITY: PARENTS ENRICHMENT PROGRAM

Community garden days, parent education classes, a Book Club, a PTA, are some of the ways that we bring our “Tribu” together.

La Tribu is proud to be the first and only Montessori Spanish Immersion preschool in Austin. As part of our mission, we want to provide tools and resources to educate and strengthen our community. This is why we created our Parent Enrichment Program (PEP), an only for parents space designed to  learn and share important information about the main topics we work with at school: positive discipline, language acquisition, potty training, Montessori philosophy, and so forth.

The first edition of our PEP was on POSITIVE DISCIPLINE  with Sandy Blackard, founder of Language of Listening. Sandy is a parenting coach and award-winning author. Her publications include SAY WHAT YOU SEE® for Parents and Teachers and a professional guidebook for play therapists, ChildParent Relationship Therapy (CPRT) Treatment Manual, co-written with Dr. Sue Bratton, Dr. Theresa Kellam, and her mentor, Dr. Garry Landreth. The session was an eye-opening introduction to her method, to gain insights and simple tools parents can use to change challenging moments with their children into rewarding ones.

On our second PEP edition we invited Donna Bryant Goertz to talk about "How Montessori can support your parenting: In the Community and at Home".  Confident about the importance of having a consistent approach with children and creating a strong partnership between the school and home, we designed this session for all the parents to discover the benefits the MONTESSORI METHOD has to offer from the first years of life. Montessori pedagogy is not only a respectful parenting tool but is also a life philosophy. Donna Bryant Goertz is an eminence in the field, not only because she directs Austin's most prestigious Montessori school, which she herself founded almost 50 years ago, but also because she raised her own 5 children "the Montessori way". Coming into one of her classrooms is like entering a temple of peace and harmony, where each child is quietly focused on their work, and the spark of curiosity shines bright.

Stay tuned for more information about following PEP sessions
