We are Austin’s first Spanish Immersion Montessori preschool. Our evolving community aims to foster a sense of belonging with every family that joins us. Our mission is to nurture independence and self-awareness through experiential learning, play, and discovery during the early childhood years. We promote inclusive environments to serve the needs of each child and the community as a whole, both academically and socially. We are dedicated to teaching the Spanish language while fostering curiosity, love, and respect for Hispanic culture. We guide our children’s interactions with nature to help cultivate lifelong environmentally conscious learners.
Being immersed in a Spanish-speaking environment helps our children to learn and understand culture and language. The use of the Spanish language works as a very powerful tool for individual development and to strengthen community ties. Being bilingual significantly impacts how we relate to others: higher levels of empathy, deeper connections, and, ultimately, more self-confidence. Mastering the Spanish language is an increasingly necessary and valued competence worldwide, particularly in the United States. La Tribu is a place for your child to explore, play, work, wonder, interact, and live in Spanish.
Montessori education is based on hands-on learning, self-expression, and collaborative play in an environment that promotes respect, peace, and joy. Children develop a deep love of learning, being guided by their interests, and exercising freedom of choice while also taking responsibility for the impact of their actions on the community as a whole.
Our prepared environments—both indoors and outdoors—are designed for multi-age groups and guided by prepared adults who are aware of each child's developmental stages.
We spend a lot of time outside. We purposely schedule free, unstructured play time within our children's day and also facilitate collaborative games. We aim to foster the community’s environmental consciousness by designing hands-on experiences, like cultivating our own garden, collecting rainwater, caring for animals, or composting. Our “Art and Nature” program keeps children of all ages engaged outdoors all afternoon.
La Tribu is a Spanish-immersion Montessori Preschool and was the first of its kind in Austin. We are proud to have created our own curriculum, combining the best proven practices in education with the core values that we embody daily to create a meaningful life.

Our campus, La Tribu Rural, is nestled off of Menchaca in beautiful South Austin.
Children learn languages more easily because the plasticity of their developing brains lets them use both hemispheres in language acquisition, while in most adults, language is lateralized to one hemisphere, usually the left. If this is true, learning a language in childhood may give you a more holistic grasp of its social and emotional contexts.
